Postdoctoral Scholar

November 16, 2021 by

We have an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral fellow at UCSF in San Francisco working in the research group of Professor Michael Weiner, MD, the Principal Investigator of the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI). The applicant will be involved in innovative research using ADNI data, including research focused on identifying older adults at risk for cognitive decline and dementia, and understanding contributions of demographic factors and the role of fluid and imaging biomarkers. ADNI is a longitudinal multicenter study designed to develop clinical, imaging, genetic, and biochemical biomarkers for the early detection and tracking of Alzheimer’s disease. Since its launch more than a decade ago, the landmark public-private partnership has made major contributions to Alzheimer’s research, enabling the sharing of data between researchers around the world. Overall, this project involves clinical neuroscience and biomarker research, with an emphasis on Alzheimer’s disease, cognitive aging, and cognitive decline. An area of particular interest is the use of easily-collected participant data to efficiently enrich a sample population for cognitive impairment and elevated AD biomarkers. We are interested in exploring the contributions of subjective measures, plasma AD biomarkers, genetic risk factors, and sociodemographic factors to enrichment strategies. We encourage applications from those interested in conducting research to improve recruitment, retention, and engagement of traditionally underserved and underrepresented groups (racial and ethnic groups, those with low socioeconomic status) in clinical aging and dementia research. The Principal Investigator of the project is Michael W. Weiner, MD, Professor of Radiology. The applicant will work closely with Drs. Duygu Tosun (Associate Professor, Radiology and Biomedical Imaging) and Rachel Nosheny (Assistant Professor, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences).
